Over the weekend Parth Ramaman Venkat tried to cast off the blame for an early morning crash that left his Toyota totaled and upright in a ditch, though investigators were not fooled by his act.
Shortly before 3:45 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29, deputies were called to the area of Brooke Road and Marlborough Point Road, where there was an automatic crash notification, and upon arrival, they found the truck in a ditch and Venkat in the area.
Venkat showed signs of being intoxicated, according to a spokesperson from the Stafford County Sheriff's Office, and he readily admitted to consuming five beers, though he claimed he was a passenger in the pick-up, and the driver had fled from the area.
The deputies were neither fooled, nor amused.
"Despite this, there was no evidence of anyone else being on scene," the spokesperson mused. "Since most drivers can’t vanish like ghosts, deputies questioned him further on this made up driver."
Venkat was then hit with a harsh reality when investigators found out the totaled truck was at a nearby gas station before the crash, a gas station that was equipped with surveillance cameras, leading to his fateful admission.
Seeing his future in front of him, Venkat then admitted that he "would be in trouble" if they were to review footage from the camera, prompting his arrest.
The Stafford resident was ultimately determined to be the driver, and he was charged with driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration between .15 percent and .20 percent, and he was held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail until he sobered up.
